Ride Hard. Breathe Easy is over. And the cause continues!

Ride Hard Breathe Easy is over, and it was a blast.  Here are a few things to chew on:

  • There were 13 SAGger teams and a total of 21 people who SAGged during the ride
  • More than 100 people gave their time, money and heart to support this ride and all lung cancer patients
  • The ride (including wrong turns) was 3,553 miles, the climbing was over 136,000 feet, the highest point was 11,312 and I pedaled over 1.1M times
  • We were on TV in Philadelphia and Indianapolis, and in the media over 10 times
  • SO FAR, we have raised over $86,000 for The Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation and Lung Cancer Alliance.  There is still time to donate at www.rhbe.org.
  • All expenses associated with this journey, including the travel, meals, van, gas, crying baby faces and “Anti-Monkey Butt” were paid for by us
  • Colette made me shave
  • There really is a Clown Motel in Tonopah, NV (a place that is hard to leave)
  • The Governor of Pennsylvania signed a proclamation that November is “Lung Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania

The daily tributes provided insight into people impacted or fighting lung cancer, and we received many, many emotional comments about the ride’s importance.  The people we met across the country were so kind, all had a story about cancer and many of these stories were about lung cancer.

Outside of Beth, Johnny and family, making a difference in lung cancer is my number one priority.  My hope is that everyone involved in any way with Ride Hard Breathe Easy, stays involved with this cause.  You can come to a 5K with Kathleen’s Krew, contact your local member of Congress, go to the Lung Cancer Alliance meeting in DC next year or many more things.  You can also be part of “whatever happens with Ride Hard Breathe Easy in 2018”.

It starts with you, and if you want to be more involved, please let me know and we will find a way.  And I will host a call on Thursday, November 2 at 7:00PM East Coast time to look back at Ride Hard. Breathe Easy. and to talk about ideas or 2018.  EVERYONE is welcomed to join.  The phone number is 1-866-312-7353.  Passcode is 852 498 7592.

The facts I shared during the ride continue, which is why I will continue to do what I can to help all lung cancer patients:

  • Lung cancer is the number one cancer in the world.  Period.
  • Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer in your state.  Of women.  And of men
  • The 5-year survival rate for lung cancer patients is 19%
  • The funding is well below other cancers such as colon, prostrate and breast
  • The stigma associated with lung cancer needs to be eliminated and we all need to raise our voices and scream that we want, expect and need change

So thanks for reading this final blog and for supporting this ride.  Your words and support made a difference to me, every day.  And many thanks for considering to be part of a group that makes a difference for all lung cancer patients.

  1. I loved every minute of this adventure. From reading your blogs to drinking wine to being a SAG driver. Please count me in for any future efforts, especially if it includes a clown motel! Much love! Peggy
